The National Irrigation Administration Upper Pampanga River Integrated Irrigation Systems (NIA UPRIIS) officially inaugurated the Magtanggol Solar-Powered Pump Irrigation Project (SPIP) on May 20, 2025, marking a proud moment for the Magtanggol farming community, ushering in a new era of sustainable and efficient water access for local farmers. The SPIP is composed of three pumps installed in different sites in Barangay Magtanggol, Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija.
The ceremony was graced by key figures from NIA UPRIIS led by Regional Manager, Engr. Gertrudes A. Viado, whose message highlighted the Agency’s commitment to empowering agricultural communities through innovation and inclusive service.
Also in attendance were NIA UPRIIS Officer-in-Charge, Engr. Alvin L. Manuel and Acting Division V Manager, Engr. Roberto Q. Matias, who both expressed their hopes that the project will not only improve irrigation access but also uplift the productivity and lives of local farmers.
The event was made more meaningful by the presence of the MAGCABALICATPO Irrigators Association President, Mr. Juanico S. Balantac and its farmer-members. On behalf of the farmer-beneficiaries, Mr. Balantac also delivered an emotional message of gratitude. “This is more than just a project. It’s a light—quite literally—that brings hope to our fields,” he shared.
The NIA UPRIIS Division V key staff and employees were also present to witness the event, showing full support for the project, and the community it will serve. Their dedication and collaboration played a vital role in bringing the project to completion.
The Magtanggol SPIP is designed to harness clean energy to provide consistent and cost-effective irrigation. It reflects the NIA’s vision for sustainable development and climate-resilient agriculture. With this milestone, the farmer-beneficiaries can now look forward to better yields, stronger harvests, and a brighter and greener future.
