The Nueva Ecija  Water Summit held on October 15 at the Nueva Ecija Convention Center  highlighted the mitigation and  intervention programs  on  the onset of   El Niño phenomenon  this last quarter of the year.

NIA-UPRIIS has been selected to be the pilot site on the use of coconet and vetiver in the construction of irrigation systems in the country.

Through the project , it will expand the use of bio-engineering in the construction of irrigation systems and even on roads.   The shift  from the use of concrete to coconet in lining the irrigation canals involves slope stabilization, soil conditioning, soil erosion prevention and hydroseeding plus it entails lesser cost to the government.  It will also encourage the development of local coco coir industry that... NIA Administrator Engr. Florencio F. Padernal designated a new Department Manager for UPRIIS last January 7, 2016.

He is Engr. Florentino R. David, who, prior to his appointment was the Regional Irrigation Manager of NIA-Region IV-B in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro.

The appointment of Engr. David follows the brief stint of Engr. Rosalinda B. Bote who acted as Officer-in-Charge of the office after the retirement of former Department Manager, Engr. Reynaldo D. Puno on November 19, 2015.
